In 1970, soon after graduation from college, we purchased a Bedlington Terrier, and that lead to our introduction to participating in dog shows and dog obedience training.

It wasn’t long after that that we saw our first Dandie Dinmont Terrier.  And that has led to a 50-year love affair with the breed.  Operating under the kennel name Montizard, we have finished over 30 champions, and won numerous awards at American Kennel Club dog shows, including Best In Shows, Specialty wins, and multiple group wins.

Today, Anatolian Shepherds, many of whom are working livestock guardian dogs, are our primary interest. One of them, Amir, remains the most memorable of all the dogs we have encountered, and following his passing, we published a tribute book to him entitled, “Amir – On how to live a good and happy life.”

A lifetime of living and working with dogs has led to them being featured in others books.  Titles include Leadership “Lessons Learned in Dog Obedience School” and a book for young people titled “Small dog – Big Adventure” and”Tootles Wants”.
